Question: Work at home – need to register with CRA?
I recently moved to Canada, doing work at home – Excel Based financial modeling. Orders are received from abroad (my home country) by e-mail.
My total income is around 19,000 CAD, almost no Deductible Expenses.I am about to file a tax return for 2007.
Question:
Was I supposed register as Self Employed with CRA before I file, or do I just file Tax Return form for 2007 and state my business address as my home address? If I have to register and do it now, will I be subject to any fines, since I conducted a small business without notifying CRA in advance?
Answer: I like to know about your work at home expericence. I am looking to work at home, and would like to know how to get started if you didn’t mind…..=)

Question: I know the taxes are due on April 15th, but what time? Is it 11:59pm? or maybe 5 pm? I’m using TurboTax.?
I know I’m late..but I want to get it over with. Also, I don’t have all receipts for moving expenses..can I deduct this still? I also needed to stay in a hotel for some time because I couldn’t afford an apartment (my income was too low for the apartment), thus I had to charge a hotel on my cc. Is this deductible? i am an employee, not an independent contractor.
Answer: They have to be postmarked by 11:59 on April 15th

Question: Moving Expenses Tax Deductible?
Are moving Expenses still tax deductible if I am relocating to a new city but for the same employer. The relo is 250 Miles away.
Answer: They are deductable if you are not reimbursed for them. You will meet the distance test if your new workplace is at least 50 miles further from your former home than your previous workplace was from that home. For example, if your old job was 5 miles from your former home, your new job must be at least 55 miles from that home.
The time test requires you work full-time for at least 39 weeks during the 12 months immediately after your move. If you are self-employed, the time test requires you to work full-time for at least 39 weeks during the first 12 months and for a total of at least 78 weeks during the first 24 months after your move. You can deduct your moving expenses on your tax return even though you have not met the time test by the date your return is due if you expect to meet the 39-week or the 78-week test as required.
