Question: Can you deduct a new car on tax as expense for your business when you are on 1099?

This is the first time I’m going from w2 to 1099. My business place is 45 miles from the place where I live. If I buy a new car, can it be deductible from taxes as business expense?

Answer: You can deduct business use. You can’t deduct your 45 mile commute.

Answer: Unfortunately, this is an addon to the sales tax deduction–which only helps you if you itemize for 2008.
