Tax Deduction Medical Bills

Question: Can my girlfriend claim the medical expense Tax Deductions for her medical treatments even if I paid the bill?

All the invoices have her name as the patient and she is not being claimed by anyone.
I should have been more clear, she actually did pay for the expenses by reinbursting me. It’s just that I handle the expenses. I also realize it’s a moot point because I heard that it must exceed 7.5% of AGI, which it does not.
Thanks again for the reply anyway.

Answer: She might possibly get away with it, but it’s technically illegal. She’d be in serious trouble if she were ever audited. Tax fraud isn’t something to play around with.

She does know that she can’t claim any medical expenses unless they exceed 7.5 percent of her AGI, right? And that it doesn’t make sense for her to itemize deductions unless all of her deductions together add up to more than the standard deduction that the IRS allows?

Tax Deduction Medical Expenses 2009

Question: what were the medicare premiums in 2009 for both A and B?

I’m preparing 2009 taxes for my father was was deceased in Jan 2010. He had many medical expenses in 2009, so I’m claiming them for deductions. In the grand paperwork shuffle, I cannot seem to find any paperwork denoting the premiums for Medicare part A & B for 2009…anyone know what the monthly or yearly costs were?
…he was not my dependent…I am filing HIS return, not mine. You are correct though that Medicare premiums are NOT allowable deductions…I misread the turbotax prompt.

Answer: Do you mean that he was your dependent in 2009? Are you claiming his medical costs as your out of pocket expenses?

The Medicare premium is deducted from his Social Security check before he receives it. Thats why you don’t see any paperwork. The amount was $96.40 per month and now it is $96.50 per month for one person. He also must have paid the 20 per cent that Medicare does not pay, or he may have had a gap insurance policy. That costs about $150 a month unless he had zero share of cost Medicaid which pays that.

I hope you are correct about using his out of pocket costs as a deduction on your tax return.

Question: the phrase cheap labor is it a myth, a farce and a lie?

there is no such thing as cheap labor.take for example, an illegal mexican who sneaks in here with his wife and five kids .he takes a job for 5 or 6 dollars an hour. at that wage with six dependents he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, gets an earned income credit of up to 3,200 free.he qualifies for section 8 housing and subsidized rent, food stamps and free no deductible, no co- pay health care.his kids get free breakfasts and lunches at school, and require bi- lingual teachers and books that we the tax payers provide.he doesnt have to worry about car ins, life ins or home owners ins. we the taxpayers provide spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.he cannot be fired, harassed, or sued.he and his family receive the equivalent of $20 to $30 an hour in benifits .

Answer: WOW you sure got that right. I had thought making $4 an hour was bad, but, then, they don’t pay taxes, or FICa or Social Security, or medical insurance. WOW I realized after my deductions I make about $3.80 an hour
DAMM WET Backs get more than me.

Tax Court Rules Prostitutes Aren’t Deductible
Lawyer kept records, claimed visits as medical expense

“The U.S. Tax Court ruled Monday that Brooklyn, N.Y. tax lawyer William G. Halby, 78, had no legal basis to deduct prostitutes and pornography as medical expenses on his federal tax returns. Judge Joseph Robert Goeke upheld the Internal Revenue Service’s determination that Halby owed $21,000 in back taxes plus $4,000 in accuracy-related penalties for his disallowed write-off of $120,000 of what the court delicately (and in quotations) called “service providers” as well as pornographic materials.”

Prescription Deductibles

Prescription Deductibles

Question: So… You have been elected to change Health Care…?

You are the newly promoted person, to develope a Universal Health Care System for the entire United States, Where do you begin? How would you do it? How would this effect Insurance Companies? How are you going to pay for it? What would be covered or not covered? How about prescription drugs? Any deductibles or co-insurances?

Answer: Ok, one thing at a time. First thing I would do is try to find advisers from the highest ranks, from countrys that have it. I would also include people that are friendly to the concept. I would not accept negitivity as critisim. Simply put that would doom it for those that want it. Some of the things I would do is make it voluntary. If you wanted standard insurance you could have it but you would pay for it. I would cover basic and emegency health care for those that wanted it. I would build or buy regional hospitals and hire Doctors to staff them. They would be free to have a private practice also as long as they accepted U.H.C., Paying for it would be the easy part I believe. As it is now the insurance company’s are profiting billions while paying for substandard care. Some of that money would come to me in the form of premums. Instead of paying a private insurance you would pay into the U.H.F., if you were a member, I would allow corporations to buy into it also. Just like paying for private insurance they would pay U.H.C. to cover their employee’s. Everyone would be covered that wanted it. Currently there are an estimated 45 million people without access to affordable health care. Paying for them would be a problem. I think a value added tax would cover it, don’t know what it would take. There would be some savings due to people that don’t have health insurance now do not go to the Dr. when it would be easy to fix the problem. The wait until it is serious and then go. Costing much more. Prescriptions drugs would be bargined for. The V.A. at this times buys drugs at a rate approximetly one quarter of the cost of drugs in the general population. This also is a savings. Yes there would be reasonable deductables, based on ability to pay. Yes there would be co-insurance but out of your own pocket. U.H.C. works well in other countrys, and I feel it can work here, for the benifit of all. Rich and poor. .
