Answer: No they aren’t. Sometimes, gastric bypass surgery is, if a doctor looks at you and says that you’ll die if you don’t have it. Otherwise, no, it’s cosmetic. Nothing medically pressing about it.
There was a case involving a stripper who got breast implants for her job. But they were huge, like HHH’s, or something. After an audit, the IRS determined that since they were so ridiculously huge and that she wouldn’t normally have gotten them that big, they did allow them as a job expense. Crazy, ain’t it.
