Question: Are utility bills allowed to use the state sales Tax Deductions for income tax?
I would like to know if an income tax filer can claim the sales taxes paid on monthly utility bills for the state sales tax deductions for income tax?
Answer: There’s nothing in the schedule A instructions or the publication 17 that disallows it, so it should be okay. You just need to make sure the sales tax charged is at the general rate.
