Question: What should we claim on our W-4?
My husband and I each make about 40k (80k total) with no children. We would like to break even when it comes tax time. In 2009 we expect to take the standard deduction with no additional income or credits. How should we fill out our W-4 forms? The IRS calculator is too confusing to get the answer!
UPDATE: The HR Block site said one of us should claim 0 and the other 3 (that just sounds weird). The IRS site said we should both claim 0 and may end up owing in the end.
Answer: Try this tool from the IRS: http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96196,00.html
